Heartbreaking Update on UPS Incident: Fatalities Rises to 13

The number of victims resulting from the transport jet that caught fire and went down has reached 13, as confirmed by recent announcements.

Mayor's Remarks

“On my way to the Teamsters’ vigil, I was informed of a thirteenth victim that passed away as a result of the aircraft incident,” wrote the municipal leader in a public communication. “My heart is with the loved ones, companions and colleagues of all who were taken in this week’s disaster. We will overcome this collectively.”

Deceased Identified

A statement from the company identified the pilots operating the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our sympathies reach out to every employee who has been affected and all in our local area – helping you and ensuring you obtain the care and resources you need is our focus,” the company’s statement stated.

Probe Updates

National investigators revealed that the jet’s wing burst into flames and an power plant fell off just after departure from the Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport, causing the aircraft to fall and erupt into a inferno.

The NTSB stated it is probing the aircraft’s service record, that was in the state for repairs weeks before the accident.

Aviation records revealed the aircraft was on the ground in that location from 3 September to mid-October.

“We are cognizant that this jet was there in the facility,” remarked an official on Thursday, without a specific date range. “We will look at all elements of service that was performed, from the San Antonio visit, straight to the time of the flight.”

Findings of Critical Items

The audio device and flight data recorder were found, and the motor was located on the airfield.

The units – known as data containers – were designed to survive collision damage and intense heat from fires, and they appeared to be in one piece when found within the remains. Officials intend to analyzing data from the devices.

Jet’s final recorded information showed an height of that level and a velocity of 210 miles per hour prior to the impact.

Maintenance Record

Per FAA records dated 18 September, a crack on a structural piece in the tank area needed fixes.

Singapore-based ST Engineering, which stated it offers structural repairs for the company’s jet and manages a maintenance center in that city, refused to comment, but said it would cooperate fully when investigators reached out it.

Operations Restart

At the same time, the hub activities resumed Wednesday night with its Next Day Air or nighttime process, spokesperson a representative confirmed. The three runways at the airport were likewise reopened.

The UPS package handling facility in this location is the company’s most significant. The center hires over twenty thousand people in the locality, handles 300 trips daily and organizes over 400,000 packages per hour.

Community Reaction

A candlelight vigil was held on the night of that date by the area Teamsters Union, which represents staff at the airfield, the company’s primary air cargo hub.

The union chapter, which represents employees, commenced the gathering with a period of reflection at the evening hour, the approximate hour of the incident two days earlier.

“This tragedy was so abrupt, so unforeseen,” the mayor told the crowd of attendees. “No one had a opportunity to bid farewell to any of those who we have said farewell to.”
